Holy Shit
I know everyone is surprised, but take my word no one is as surprised as me. I woke up that morning to hear Diablo and Ellen's names read aloud. By the time they got to directors, all I kept thinking was, can we please get to Picture already... and then my name popped up and my heart just stopped. My wife started crying. My father called me up and couldn't finish a sentence he was so moved.
I was up at Sundance. My wife and I were screaming so much that the guy next door came over and asked if we had just sold our film in the festival.
When I was twelve years old, I remember asking my father, why don't you ever go to the Oscars? He told me that he would go when he got nominated. For some reason, at that young age, I had the chutzpa to ask - What if I get nominated? Will you come then. He smiled and said yes. I guess we're both going tux shopping.
I'm sorry I haven't been blogging. This has been a crazy time between finishing Juno and beginning "Jennifer's Body". I just got back from Sundance where I was on the shorts jury and played in a celebrity/pro hockey game (not quite sure where I fit in there). I saw an incredible documentary called "American Teen". It's a must see.
Tomorrow night, I'm going to introduce a screening of "Election" - one of the films that made me want to be a director and of course influenced how I approached "Juno".
I like it when a director doesn't beat me over the head with its characters. In almost every movie the yuppies are made out to be idiots, while the working-class family are the inherently noble ones with all the answers. This movie portrayed everyone with decency, compassion and fairness.
Whomever casted this movie deserves credit too. That doggone Ellen Page was unbelievable. But so was the rest of the cast.
You know I think the movie was intelligent but after my 13 yr old daughter watched this movie, she decided to experiment with this and now she has become pregnant. We have taught right from wrong along with abstinence, but she said after watching this film - it was like a go ahead for all the girls and it is ok to have to get pregnant because someone will take care of the baby!! She is just a baby herself and I feel that this film is very controversial and should be banned, let alone I feel that there should be lawsuits about this, granted this is not the only movie that has suggested it is ok to get pregnant, find someone to take care of the baby and go ahead and live your life!!!
Hey
I wrote a script like Juno....but it still lies in my notebook..wish id made a movie too....you need any more unconventional scripts??? ill be happy to share.....
Best of luck!!
Just small "thank You" from Poland for making film like "Juno". Absolutely second to none in comedy genre. I can specify couple of things that thrilled me the most: directing, scenario, impressive playing, well-defined characters and many more things that create clear and memorable masterpiece. Fresh look at children problems, lots of preety funny dialogs and what's the most important I think: hidden message of this film. Maybe it was said unintentionally, but showing love of young people in such a way you done this is just perfect. The film has in my opinion very strong influence on young people's mind. Made me start to thinking about some issues in other way I've looked before.
I`m sure I can announce that I haven`t seen better film after seeing that American comedy crap.
Just wanna thank you for making this film, for choosing Ellen Page as a main character, she`s just gorgeus !
PS.
Have you been considering sequel of "Juno" after receiving several nominations and awards on ceremonies ? Or maybe during making the film ?
Maybe about Juno's future life or plans ? Everything is possible with Diablo Cody :)
And at the end I would like to apologize for all mistakes made whilst writing this post, still learning English.

I just saw the movie for the first time last night....simply amazing. I absolutely loved it!...very inspiring. You guys did a wonderful job. I hope I have the chance to work with you or Diablo in one way or another in the future.
Congrats on all your success!

Hello from the Azores! Saw your film last night (in Portugal we don't dubb, thank the gods, we just add subtitles) and found it most ingenious, moving, and uncomplicated. As the mother of a teenager, the film reassured me that I'm on the right track.
More and more - probably result of being 45 already - I prefer a clever script/clean directing/under-acting to sfx and a lot of noise, full of sound but with no fury. Congratulations, to you Mr. Reitman, and to all the team. Really enjoyed the soundtrack.

Man! You are so talented.. Believe me, I was NOT surprised at all that you were up there with all the other directors.
I love Juno so so so so much.
Congrats man!
Hi Jason, I'm Wagner, from Brazil, last Monday I watched "Juno". This movie is incredible man. I never heard such a great soundtrack in my whole life. I love Belle and Sebastian and get freak listening to Cat Power! Congratulations! I'm you fan now!
The Carpet Baggar of the New York Times took notice of a certain pick 'em that had JUNO at the top of the Best Picture list............
http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/19/juno-how-to-stir-up-the...
I'm rooting for it. The movie was absolutely wonderful and well-deserving of the best pic award. Great work, and I'm looking forward to your upcoming projects.
Now, back to shamelessly plugging JUNO to the folks I know...
Somewhere on the road to NYC for a trip the cast of our play took, I remember you telling me this story about your dad. I am extremely proud of what you have accomplished and having known you "when". I sing the praises of Jason Reitman at every chance I get. Congratulations sir, I can only hope you have more and more success.

So, I feel like a stalker, I mean, I just read all your blog entries in like a half hour. But whatever.
Juno is my favorite movie, I honestly quote it atleast 5 times a day. My whole family loved it.
great jobb.
Cannot wait to see your future films.
I admit, I was surprised but it was such a happy surprise!
Let me tell you what you've already heard, you deserve it. You had the script and you had the actors but what you did with that film was taking it to a whole new level, if Diablo created a new world, you created the climate and you made it a world I wanted to be a part of!
If you win, I won't mind hearing this story about your father again, it would give an excellent speech!
Congrats!
Congratulations!
Soy española y me cuesta decirlo en inglés. Hacía mucho que no salía tan contenta de ver una película. Es muy dulce (sin ser cursi) y te hace pensar y sentir bien. Es genial. Enhorabuena.
First let me congratulate you on your nominations. I didn't know who you were till I saw a news report just now about you and your father. (I love his work-please pass that on). I saw Juno along w/ the other best picture nominees last weekend (paid full price btw)I'm a big movie watcher. I just got out of the military serving 4 years and was overseas so couldn't see movies when they came out like I used to. This movie was a big surprise. The cast was great. It was fun to see new and familiar faces. The best scene for me was the conversation between Juno and her father about relaionships. It meant alot to hear what he said cause that's what I'm looking for in my life. This was a wonderful story to be told. It was hard seeing all 5 movies in one weekend and I still couldn't tell people who I think should be the winner but I wish great success with this movie. Oh, the music. The song they sing @ the end by Moldy Peaches (funny, Peaches is my nickname but don't feel moldy-lol) was perfect for this song. I have to get it for my ringtone. Thanks for reading and will see you @ the Oscars

PS don't ever have them boys wear those shorts again. That's just wrong.
It's not in theaters until 21st February in Hong Kong but i have watched it more than 20 times (yes i did). Though I am not sure folks in Hong Kong are gonna love it but i certainly does and I am sure Im going to watch it in the theater again and definitely buying the dvd and put it on top of my favorite collection.
This is truly one of the best film i have ever seen, thank you Jason. thank you for making this world in Juno that I have never imagined.
And congratulations, it's so good seeing you nominated =]

It would be nice hearing from you =]
Hello, I`m Hugo, from Barcelona, (Spain), the film Juno, it´s very nice, I like very mutch, in my blog talk to movies and cinema. Today talk a Juno.
http://mundoguion.blogspot.com/
I´m writer and director off cinema, you need contact in my blog.
Thanks for the movie.
it's comments like that (about you and your father shopping for appropriate Oscar attire) that reach people on a very real level. thank you for that!
you, diablo and kimya dawson have inspired me to take up where my writing kinda left off -- years ago before motherhood took over with unexpected force!
keep making stellar flicks! (i love that word, stellar.)
Jason Reitman, you son of a bitch. Why do you make worlds in which I never want to wake from? In my final year of highschool I studied your film Thank You For Smoking and fell in love (with your work, sorry to shut you down so harshly but that's just the way it is).
Juno is the cutest thing ever. I say "thing" because it's not even a film. It's a thing. I already loved the style, I already loved the humor, I already loved the music. It's been put together in an amazing aray of thing.
Reitman, I know nothing of your fathers work. I'm judging you purely based on yourself. My teacher judged you as "Jason's first film (TYFS) how cute!" I judged you on "wow. This is some good shit (bro)".
Kimya Dawson <3. That's all I have to say about that.

Hey I'm Amanda from Spain, I've just come back after seeing 'Juno' at the cinema in the original version and I have just loved it. Sincerely, thank you very much for doing this movie and I wish you all my luck for the Academy Awards!
I wanted to see it because I loved ellen's performance on 'Hard Candy' and it has been a great experience. :) I have to admit that I didn't really know who the director was ('Thanks for smoking' is the only movie we have been able to see here from you, and I liked it too, but not as much as 'Juno', I have to admit it!)and as soon as I've got back home I've come to my computer to seek you :)
Thank you & good luck!
omg, I was watching the nomination announcements streamed live online at 5:30 in the morning.....and was so excited to see Juno nominated! needless to say I woke up everyone in the house, especially when I saw that you got nominated, that's so cool and so unexpected (and not in the you don't deserve it way) just the lack of recognition in other award shit (But you got the biggest recognition there is, the academy members nominated a COMEDY!!) it's practically a miracle! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
and have fun tux shopping
...and I loved "election"
I love Juno more tho.^_^
~angie
Congrats dude...and by the way you totally look the hottest out of all those directors, so even if you don't get tha big one you can honestly say "feels good just to be nominated, I now know that I am quite frankly the better looking director...and we all know in this industry it's all about the looks; a better haircut means a better director". Plus you look like my histology lecturer, and he is pretty smart, so if you are ever in Sydney feel free to pop into the uni and demand a hot scone because "I AM A DOCTOR!Of cells...?". Anyhoo, be proud.
If you need a 20 year old female for this new film you know who to call...;) (yeah, apparently that is a wink. It does look a bit like a guy who just ate a lemon though).
If theres any roles in Jennifer's Body for a 20-year old male that need filling, you know who to call :)
Mr. Reitman!
Congratulations for your nomination!
My name is Otavio and I live in São Paulo, Brazil, and I watched JUNO yesterday for the first time. And I loved it. I wanna thank you for this gift. Thank You, Mr. Reitman! It made me cry...
This is the greatest picture of 2007.
I have a blog: www.hollywoodiano.blogspot.com
I'll give JUNO a 4 stars rating.
Regards!
Congrats on the nomination Jason! I haven't seen Juno yet but really loved Thank You For Smoking and your short Consent. You have a lot of talent and you inspire me =)
Good luck. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks so much for keeping us in mind for the soundtrack ("I'm Into Something Good" from the B-Sides). I never imagined our little raw, rave-up (1 mic, 3 shots of tequila, 4 casette tracks recorded in the basement) would find its way to you! We loved the movie. Best wishes for continued success,

aw I just realized you mentioned the film 'election' in your post. If we're talking about the same film then nice choice!
CONGRATS! YOU deserve every bit!
I was surprised TYFS didn't get more love. It's a shame I couldn't make it out to this premiere but clearly there will be more to attend in the future!
GO CELEBRATE!
I finally had the chance to see Juno tonight and I don't really even know what to say. I thought this movie was absolutely brilliant. I loved it. I think I have a movie crush on Paulie Bleeker. ha.
Congrats to you!! You so deserve this nomination! I know I won't be the only one rooting for you come Oscar night!
Jason
just wanted to let you know that I knew this film would do well. living in Toronto I was one of the lucky ones that got to see it at TIFF. I had been telling everyone that this was the film of the year from September. As a filmmaker Im proud of you and threw the crazy journey your going threw remember that your inspiring me as a Canadian to keep pushing to make my indie film, and that you can get distribution and that it can get a North American theatrical release.
keep it up!

Congratulations on all of the Oscar nominations for "Juno" and other accolades that the film has received. I'm a huge movie buff, and "Juno" just blew me away. I read the buzz about it since the Toronto Film Festival, and a friend and I drove 90 miles to see it in limited release last month. I had such high expectations for your movie, and it completely exceeded them. I felt like I knew the characters by the end of the film. It was so refreshing to see a movie about a smart, whitty, strong young lady. All of the actors were wonderful in their roles, and Ellen Page is completely amazing as Juno. Congratulations and best wishes at the Oscars! I'll be cheering for you and looking forward to your next film.
