'Dichotomy' Advance Private Screening *PHOTOS
Aug 1, 2009Sunday 26th July 2009 is a date that will go down in history for me,
for it was the date of the very first audience screening of my debut feature film ‘Dichotomy’.
300+ people packed into the Harvard Exit theatre in Seattle to check out the film. The reaction was better than I could ever have imagined. Positively and warmly received, of course along with the obligatory constructive criticism. Thank you Seattle!! Let’s hope this is an inclination of things to come… on to the festivals!

Dichotomy Post-Production Begins
Jan 9, 2009After a month of shooting at locations in and around Seattle Jay Purcell’s debut feature film ‘Dichotomy’ completed principal photography in early December 2008.
The drama/thriller stars Isaac Bekker, Marya Sea Kaminski and Agnes Muljadi (who also wrote the screenplay) and revolves around the lives of two old friends and a dark secret revealed by the presence of a stranger in their lives - Read More Here.
Post-production has now begun on the feature with an eye on an April finish. The first ever public screening is expected to happen shortly afterwards in Seattle for cast and crew as well as a small number of tickets which will be made available to the general public. Following this initial screening the film will take a tour of international film festivals and sales markets.
Funkbuddha would like to thank everybody involved in the development, pre-production and production of the movie up to this point and we look forward to showing you the end result in a few months time!

'Dichotomy' Moves Into Pre-Production

‘Dichotomy’, the latest project from the filmmakers behind ‘Continuum’ is now in pre-production.
The film is also the first feature length film to come from both Seattle production company Funkbuddha, British director Jay Purcell and actress/writer Agnes Muljadi.
Agnes and Jay first collaborated on the 2007 short film ‘Continuum’ which received it’s US premiere in May of this year at the Harvard Exit Theater in Seattle.
‘Dichotomy’ follows the story of Rebecca Thorne and Jane Li who were once the closest of friends, but now they are trying to move beyond a shared dark secret in their past. As they each attempt to overcome their personal demons a mysterious stranger appears and slowly starts to unravel the truth, making the past unclear and the future an increasingly uncomfortable prospect.
As part of an ensemble cast, the film will star Agnes along with Isaac Bekker, Marya Sea Kaminski and Laythrop Walker.
On the film, director Jay Purcell says that “…just like every other movie, it’s going be a challenging experience!”. “Dichotomy is very dialogue driven with a lot of intense scenes. There are so many rich layers to the film it is stunning!” “I’ve been told by some who have read the script that it is very Alfred Hitchcock in tone, there are a lot of twists and turns to the story so I can see that. It is also, I think, a great study of these fascinating characters, and how they each attempt to navigate their difficult lives in very separate ways”.
The screenplay was penned by Agnes Muljadi from characters and concepts developed by Agnes, Jay and Isaac.
The film is currently underway with pre-production. Filming will take place in Seattle throughout November 2008.
